Our Story:

As major foodies, Mike and Jen McCully miss very little about their Big-City Living in places like L.A. and Seattle, though their longing for consistent access to exceptional local food options has always remained strong. Aside from the many restaurant options available to them in the city, it was primarily the artisan specialty shops like bakeries, fromageries, tiny markets, and yes, especially artisan butcheries, which all provided the artistry and inspiration that fueled their love of home cooking. It is home, where they invite friends to enjoy delectable full-course meals and beautiful memories in a space of safety and comfort.

Jen has been cooking restaurant-worthy dishes since she was 12, when she was taught how to cook from-scratch, authentic Italian food from a Southern Italian co-worker of her mother's. The experience, coupled with inheriting her father's gifted palate sense, opened up an entirely new world for this young girl to explore. It led to her joy of cooking for her whole family while her parents worked full-time, and an early adoption of experimenting with her own creations. Working in the kitchen rarely feels like a chore - in fact, it's where her logic and creativity flourish best and she seldom, if ever, consults a cookbook.

 

Mike fell in love with Jen not long after she cooked him a meal their Junior year of high school, though he has also become well-acquainted with the culinary world himself and gravitates to the lick of open flame and the billow of smoke. As Mike and Jen have built a family, Mike's experimentation with meats, smoking and grilling has only grown more fiercely over the years. With the establishment of a small hobby farm in 2013, learning the art of butchering chickens, and then pork, was an organic addition.

 

As natural entrepreneurial spirits, Mike and Jen discussed time and again for many years of owning a local retail butchery that would be more than your average shop: they envisioned a deli counter for grab-and-go lunch options, pop ups with foods like burgers and barbecue, private dinners and gatherings, and more. They saw a place that provided opportunity for people to come, be seen and cared for; another place for them to feel grounded in the community and to love the people their family is surrounded by every day.
